Masters organisers prepare for 2016 series

It was announced towards the end of last year that their main sponsor was to pull out, and that the series, now undoubtedly the top Supersport 600 and Superbike championships in Ireland, were on the lookout for a new title backer.

It seems that this hasn’t materialised, and the Co. Kildare track is to promote the championship by themselves.

Last year the championship ran over five rounds, four at Mondello and one at Bishopscourt. For this year, it has expanded to take in another round at Bishopscourt. The dates are sensibly spaced, so as not to put too much pressure on the riders’ wallets.

The opening meeting is on the Mondello National circuit on the 20th March, while the 16th April sees the first visit to Bishopscourt.

Next it’s off to Mondello for a 2 day meet, on the 7th and 8th May. This one is due to be on the International track.

The second half of the season will be similar to the first in that the Mondello National circuit will host a 2 day meeting on the 17th and 18th July. Then it’s Bishopscourt for the first Sunday race meeting to be held at the track.

The 20th August, it’s hoped, that the International track at Bishopscourt will be utilised. The Masters final meeting will be at Mondello Park, on the International track on October 1-2 - provided, of course, they can get sufficient marshals for the 2.2 mile circuit.

Details are due to be announced shortly of a new ‘Young Rider of the Year’ award that will form part of the Masters championship.

AVON TYRE DEAL

Officials of the MCUI have signed a three year tyre deal with Avon. The deal covers the SS400, the Supertwins and the Production twins class. Riders who wish to take part in the championship are to register with Ivan Davidson on 028 9181 5918.
