‘Ideal’ kitchen wason show in olivewhite and orange

An exhibition of the latest domestic gas appliances was to go on show at Carrick Town Hall in October 1963.

The event was to include cookers, heaters; water heaters; fridges and washing machines.

For those who missed the Ideal Home Exhibition, a show kitchen was to be recreated complete with gas appliances and finished in olive, white and orange.

The display kitchen was to feature a split level gas oven and hot plate; “Servis Supertwin” gas-electric washing machine; an “instantaneous” water heater and a “Morphy Richards” gas-cooled refrigerator.

The exhibition was to be opened by Carrick Mayor Alderman TJ Patterson OBE with Councillor Joshua Cardwell, presiding.

The Lady Mayoress and Lord Mayor of Belfast were in attendance as well as councillors and senior officials of the borough council.

Kitchens were available to purchase for a ten per cent deposit with payments to be completed within three years.

A cookery demonstration was to take place during each day of the event by home economist Margaret Welch.
