London fashionbrought to catwalkat the King’s Arms

The fashion show was organised by the Larne branch of British Empire Cancer Research in the ballroom of the King’s Arms.

Mrs. McLaughlin was represented by her daughters Anne, and Sandra, who was one of the mannequins.

Among the eye-catching pieces was a high-waisted black evening dress finished with a “streamer” bow, a handbag made from a tea towel and a Chinese patterned “shirt waister” in green, black and white.

Anne wore a dress designed for her mother to wear to a reception at Stormont attended by Prime Minister Harold McMillan and his wife Dorothy.

The pink-coloured dress was trimmed with red bows and a “reversible duster coat” lined with red.

Her shoes and handbag were made of red linen.

The event was attended by a 350-strong audience.

According to a report in the Larne Times, the clothing on show was said to have received the approval of English fashion writers just a few weeks previously.
