Parkrunners raise £1991 for wee Oliver

For the second time in three weeks, the weather forced the runners off the beach and onto the alternative out and back road route which took the runners out past Royal Portrush Golf Club.

The strong winds didn’t stop 115 runners and walkers from turning up to support Wee Oliver, as he strives towards his goal of being able to receive the treatment he has been patiently waiting for. Saturday’s event raised £1991, so well done everyone. It’s truly amazing what Oliver’s parents have achieved in such a short time.

Rhodri Jones was first runner home in a time of 17:17 and Deborah Gilliland was first lady in 20:23 (both Springwell Runners). On Saturday there were 14 first timers and 39 recorded new personal bests (partly attributable to the road course) and three different athletics clubs were represented. Portrush welcomed visitors from Derry and Ecos parkrun as well as the many friends and family of Oliver. Before the run Kay Hack was presented with her 50 T-shirt, well done Kay.

Alistair Shaw was second at the Carrickfergus parkrun in 19:51. Jim and Agnes Platt ran the Waterworks parkrun, in 23:58, and 36:37.
