Plenty of action as new league reaches the half-way stage

The Adidas All Star Juvenile League reaches its half-way stage this week with the four Alpha teams in Division One seeking to see off the challenge of the two teams from Banbridge Black Bears and White Tigers and Carryduff A.

Alpha Barbarians were beaten 4-1 by the Avators in the opening match and will be facing the Cadets after a narrow 3-2 win over Coleraine Smasher and will be looking for similar performances from Matthew Hamill in the boys singles, Rebecca Wallace in the girls singles and the girls doubles partnership of Rebecca Wallace and Harmonie Ferguson.

The Cadets will be looking to Che Smyth and Phoebe Larmour in the two singles to lay a foundation for their two challenges against the Barbarians and the Avators while the Devils, who start this week’s matches at the top of the girls doubles table and in second place in the boys and girls singles table as well as the team championship table, meet the Banbridge White Tigers and the Barbarians.

The Devils have Summer Ferguson and Sarah Cherry in the girls doubles with two victories to their credit while in Joel Murphy and Summer Ferguson they can expect 100 per cent.

Division Two sees the Alpha Fighters in a commanding position in a commanding position on the top of all the tables except for the girls doubles table and they will face the Coleraine Smasher B side and the Alpha Hackers.

With a 5-0 whitewash over the Gladiators in the opening match and followed this up with a similar score against Carryduff B Ross Treacy and Rebecca McCullough were in uncompromising form in their two singles matches although Gladiators youngster Charlotte Hutchinson did take a set off McCullough and only lost the deciding set 21-16.

The Alpha Gladiators can expect no favours from the Alpha Hackers in their opening contest and will then meet Loughbrickland Buzzards who topped the girls doubles table with Kate Bertholon and Ria Prajapati winning their two matches.
