Police and Fire Games take aim at Carnview Farms

The 2013 World Police and Fire Games come to Ballymena this week [August 2nd] when Carnview Farms Shooting Lodge hosts the shotgun skeet and shotgun trap events over eight days of practice and competition.

The Games, which are the third largest multi-sport event in the world, will bring up to 10,000 competitors and 15,000 supporters to Northern Ireland.

Carnview was assigned official venue status after a rigorous selection process, including consultation with the sports’ governing bodies.

Mayor of Ballymena, Councillor Audrey Wales MBE, welcomes the opportunity to showcase Ballymena.

She says: “We are extremely proud of the great people and great place we have here in the Borough. To be part of these Games is an honour and has only been made possible by the dedication and hard work of many people. We welcome everyone travelling to Ballymena for the Games and hope they enjoy their time with us.”

Spectators can enjoy free access to the events at Carnview, with the Mayor and Chief Executive of Ballymena Borough Council Mrs Anne Donaghy participating in the medal ceremonies.

Cllr Wales adds: “Throughout the duration of the Games and beyond, we will endeavour to add to the economic boost the Games bring to the Borough. Ballymena is a great place to be and we have great belief in our ability to make such events both successful and memorable.

“We also believe that through tourism, social cohesion and community spirit, Ballymena can really benefit by hosting events such as these at our excellent sporting facilities.”
