POOL: Thatch go one point clear at top

There are new leaders in the Q Club Larne Pool League as the Thatch moved one point clear at the top thanks to the No. 1 Reds defeating the Saints 9-6.

The Thatch took advantage of this by defeating the in-form Station Bar 11-4 and were led by Johnny Nelson who bagged another double to take his tally to an incredible 48/54 frames for this season.

Ibrox kept the pressure on with a routine 13-2 win over the Thatch Rockets, with trebles for Stephen Burns and Kenny English. Q Pool had a comfortable 11-4 win over Ruby’s. Billy Moore, Paul Francey and William Irvine all with hat-tricks.

The Feathers also had a very convincing 14-1 success against Freewheelers in the pigeon club derby.

Gers and Q Club remain neck-and-neck with each other in the league in the battle for sixth as Gers beat the Blues 9-6 and Q Club beat Clonlee 13-2.

Last, but not least, St Comgall’s and Tech Tornadoes share a point each with Rab Wilson outfoxing his opponent in the play-off to ensure the home side got a point.

Congraulations to Bill McIlroy sr. and his Larne B1 team who this weekend made it two in a row by winning the Northern Ireland ‘B’ Interleague event at the Nortel Club, Newtownabbey.

After last year’s success the pressure was on to defend the crown, however, this Larne team took it in their stride winning every match and beating Carrick B2 17-9.

A big congratulations also to Saints man Gary Johnston who was outstanding, winning 10/11 frames.
