Roesiders make cup WKD semi-final

Carrick were slightly the better side in the first half as they made the most of the wind and slope.
In the second half the Roesiders totally outplayed the home side that despite a late consolation for Rangers.

Hide AdGareth McConaghie and teenage Shane Jennings did the damage for the visitors with Aaron Holland on target for Carrick.
With conditions not making it easy it took until the 19th minute for the first chance of the game but Ben Browne fired wide from Eddie Hill's cross.
The home side also had the next chance of the game but Ryan Murray dragged his shot wide following a scramble in the United box after they failed the clear a corner.
It took until the 32nd minute for the Roesiders first opportunity but Chris Rodden's cross cum shot appeared to strike a post and away to safety.

Hide AdSeven minutes into the second half the visitors had an excellent chance to take the lead. Ciaran Stitt was caught out of his goal but Jennings sliced wide of the goal.
In the 54th minute dead ball specialist Paul Owens fired a free-kick over Stitt's crossbar.
Midfielder Declan McKeever was next to try his luck in the 57th minute but his shot was deflected narrowly wide of the target.
Lee Patrick was the provider for David Patton shortly after but the big striker headed over the home goal.

Hide AdIn the 75th minute United took the lead their second half display deserved. McConaghie's forty yard free-kick deceived everyone before ending up in the back of the net.
Carrick tried to draw level quickly but Barry Bloomer headed wide from what appeared to be an offside position.
The Roesiders doubled their lead with twelve minutes remaining. Michael Doherty's goal kick was misjudged by the Carrick back four and Jennings gratefully accepted the gift firing home with a great strike.
In the 82nd minute Doherty was called into action as he twice denied Bloomer from close range.

Hide AdAnother Doherty clearance almost lead to a goal from Patton but the former Coleraine player headed over.
Carrick did finally score four minutes into stoppage time when Holland headed home from close range.
