Roesider's penultimate test

LIMAVADY United play their penultimate fixture in the Ladbrokes.com Championship this Saturday as they entertain Ballyclare Comrades.

The two teams did meet on the opening day of the season back in August with the Roesiders winning by four goals to nil. Trevor Hutchinson (2), Stephen Lowry and Declan McKeever were all on target.

In recent weeks Ballyclare have slipped into the bottom three in the league as Glebe Rangers have overhauled them at the weekend with their win against Coagh United.

The Comrades have only twenty three points from their twenty three games this season compared to United's fifty three from twenty four games.

They have also only scored twenty nine goals and conceded a total of thirty nine in all their league games this season.

Their most recent fixture was against Donegal Celtic last Saturday and they went done by a solitary Paul McVeigh goal.

In their last six games they have won two, drawn one and losing the other three games. They scored five and conceded five in these games.

United's final game of the season sees them travel to Ballyclare's Dixon Park to take on Tommy Kincaid's Ards next Tuesday night.

The earlier encounter this season was a five goal thriller with the Roesiders coming out on top with goals from Shane Jennings and Paul Owens (2).

Ards are currently fifth in the Championship but have four and five games in hand of some of the teams above them in the league.

They have scored forty one goals in those games but have only conceded nineteen goals, which is the best in the league.

They have a very congested end to the season as they will be playing games, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday to get their fixtures fulfilled.

In their last six games they have won four of those games and have lost the other two, with their most recent result a five nil hammering by Coagh United.

Going into the final two league games of the season Roesiders boss Oran Kearney feels there is still plenty to play for.

"We still have plenty to play for in the last two games of the season despite the fact that Loughgall have so many games in hand," he said.

"We have to make sure that we win our games and at this stage of the season that's as much as we can possibly do.

"The boys know what needs done and with the fixture pile up that other teams have then we still have a chance of a great finish.

"We have to keep believing that we will get something big from the season and that's what I will be telling the boys.

"These won't be meaningless games and we will be treating them the same way as we did at the start of the season."

Going into the games United are definitely without Ciaran Clarke with an ankle injury sustained against Bangor but otherwise have a fully fit squad.
