Rugby: Willis and Gilpin stand down at Larne

Larne Rugby Club first XV coach Barry Willis and manager Willie Gilpin have decided to stand down from their respective roles after four years with the club.

Willis has enjoyed a successful period with the Glynn-based outfit, helping guide them to Qualifying and Conference League trophies and the Gordon West Cup.

A club spokesman said: “Special mention must be given to Barry for his grit and determination during this past season when the club suffered a few set-backs.

“Furthermore, Willie must be thanked for his role. His ethos of ‘quietly getting on with things’ sometimes went unnoticed and the club is deeply indebted to all of his hard work over the years.”

Meanwhile, Larne RFC is to host a five-a-side Golf Fun Day at Bentra Golf Course on Saturday, April 14. Tee-off is scheduled for 10.30am. Food and prizes will be available afterwards at Larne RFC. Teams of five cost £15 per person and entry forms are available at the club or by checking Larne RFC’s facebook page.
