Success for Abigail as she wins Ulster title

Following a day of outstanding performance and competition on Tuesday 11th February, Loreto College’s Cross Country team returned home with an armful of medals, along with an Ulster Champion title.

Abigail McBroom won Gold in the Year 10 Girls’ race, taking the Ulster Champion title.

Along with Abigail, the Junior Girls team, of Victoria Tsang, Molly Brennan, Emma McLaughlin and Anna Morrison, took third place overall, winning Bronze in a very tightly-contested race to the finish. Abigail and the Junior Girls team qualified for the All Ireland Cross Country Finals, later this term.

Loreto was also represented at the Ulster Finals by the Mini Girls and Mini Boys teams (Year 8 students), while the Junior Girls (Year 10) were joined by the Junior Boys team. Aoife Carr (Year 11) had a great run in the highly competitive Intermediate Girls’ event.

Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, paid tribute to all the students who had represented the College with such great distinction at the Ulster Finals, and congratulated Abigail McBroom and the Junior Girls team on their medal-winning performances.

Mr James also thanked teachers Mr Paul Cunning and Mrs Sheila McBroom who had worked hard with the students in training sessions and had supported them on the day, and wished the medallists well for the All Ireland Finals, later in the term.
