Through to NIBA finals

The Lurgan triple team of Alan Briggs, skip, Mansel Montgomery and Ivor Mitchell are through to the NIBA final.

They produced a fantastic performance on Monday night in the NIBA semi-final at Carrickfergus to defeat a Bangor rink skipped by former international bowler, Gary Scott.

It was touch and go for the Lurgan triple who had remained defiant throughout the match. It was 9–9 after the 15th end. Briggs’ triple bowled magnificently on the next end to claim six shots. Scott bowled and removed the Lurgan triple’s closest bowl to take the shot but Briggs responded with a super shot to take the Bangor bowl out of the head to restore their six.

Scott’s men fired on the 17th end in an attempt to burn the head but Briggs’s triple secured another three shots to win convincingly 18–9.

Meanwhile the Lurgan men wait to see who they meet in the final at Carrickfergus on Saturday with the other semi-final between triples from Bangor’s Castle and neighbouring Banbridge being played midweek.
