Victory keeps Potters on top going into new year

Potters A rounded off 2013 with a hard fought win over the Railway Arms in Division One of the Tennent’s Coleraine Pool League.

The match went to a play off between Stephen Blair and Marc Hutchinson with Coleraine’s number one cueist breaking and finishing to win the two points for his team Potters A.

The Sperrin closed the gap to a single point on Racks A with an 11-7 win.

Allen Tosh won the first frame with a good six-ball clearance against Garth Johnston. Tommy Morrow replied with an eight ball break and clearance beating Paul O’Connor to level the scores. Due to the home team having no players available at the time the remaining matches in session one were awarded to the Sperrin.

Session two saw another 4-1 victory to the Sperrin. The highlight being Nigel Craig’s victory over Lee Caulfield.

Session three finally saw the home team playing with the full quota of players resulting in a 4-1 victory to Racks. Another eight ball clearance was the highlight of this session. In the final session wins for Allen Tosh and Paul (Beefy) O’Connor secured the victory for the Sperrin. Man of the Match: Paul (Beefy) O’Connor.

The Forge Bar are also just one point behind second place following their 11-10 win over Mary Pats.

A close encounter between these two teams saw them fight it out tooth and nail, resulting in a play off between Christopher Wade and Martin McNeill. A bad mistake by Martin allowed Christopher to take out an eight ball clearance to win the game and match for Forge Bar. Man of the Match Christopher Wade.

Racks B finally recorded their first victory in the league to date beating the Bullseye 11-9.

The first session got off to a flying start for the home team resulting in a 4-1 lead. The next ten frames were evenly contested with both teams winning five each.

Going into the last session, the pressure was on Racks B, with them needing to win only two frames to win the match. Stefan Christie and Gavin Patton duly obliged beating Stephen McMullan and Kenny Watton respectively. Man of the Match Gavin Patton. Well done Racks B.

In Division Two Social Club A moved level on points with Potters B at the top of the table following their 14-6 win over the Tavern.

The first two sessions were evenly contested ending 5-5. The next two sessions weren’t as balanced however as Social Club A showed their title credentials winning 9-1. Man of the Match Willie McMullan.

Tigers join Potters B and Social Club A at the top of the table, following a very convincing victory over Sperrin B winning 15-5, with great play from Ryan Cairns and Daniel McAuley who were both named as Man of the Match.

The Bullseye’s good start was cut short by Vader Doey, taking the only frame in session 1 for the Grove Bar by clearing the table. Session two saw some good finishes, with the best by Karl Doherty who produced his first ever eight ball clearance in the league. The spoils were shared in the last two sessions.

The Match between Roost Bar and Potters B was postponed.
