Village buzzing with excitement

FINAL preparations are taking place for the third annual Armoy Road Races and it’s true to say that the village is buzzing with excitement.

Not just because a plethora of locals will be taking part most notably the Dunlop Brothers, but because this is a meeting which is drawing praise from high quarters throughout the country.

Bill Kennedy, the clerk of the course, has done a marvellous job in pulling things together but even he would admit that his team of committee members and volunteers have taken much of the weight off his shoulders.

The day itself will undoubtedly see top-class racing with stiff competition from the ‘heavyweights’ of the motorcycling world, but the talk now is of the race forming part of a week-long programme of festivities which could provide a much-needed boost for the Armoy economy.

The organisers recognise this and next year could see more focus on 0earlier attractions.

That is not to say that this year’s event lacks a positive pre-attraction build up - far from it and visitors to Armoy will see much community spirit and craic.
